The bigger your dinner group, the more you are likely to eat.

People eat when they're not hungry. It doesn't really make sense, but we do it all the time. It's not healthy for you. Television commercials have the power of suggestion to get you to eat when you're not even hungry. People also eat for social purposes, regardless of how hungry they are. Eating in a big group with 8 friends? You're likely to consume TWICE as many calories!

The creator of the NIKE Swoosh symbol was paid only $35 for the design.

Nike paid Carolyn Davidson, a young graphic design student, $35 for the now famous Swoosh symbol. The founder of Nike, Phil Knight was teaching accounting at Portland State University when he met Davidson. He hired her to do some design work for his company, Blue Ribbon Sports, Inc.
For a presentation with some potential investors, Knight needed a design for a line of shoes. They were facing a deadline, so Davidson quickly put together some designs. One of them was the "Swoosh".
This is what Knight had to say about the now legendary design: "I don't love it, but it will grow on me."
He paid her $35 for the design at the time, but he also compensated her in the future by giving her stock in the company and a gold "Swoosh" diamond ring.

The 7 Tips I Find Useful in Overcoming Stress

The effects of stress often creep up on us. We don’t realize its full impact until we are left feeling burned out and completely apathetic.

When I get to this point, it is hard for me to motivate myself to do much of anything. Of course, I know I need to take action to clear the cobwebs and get going again.

Here are a few of the things that help me overcome stress:

1. Get a Little Time Alone to Rest

Solitude is refreshing for me. It helps me clear my head and rest. When I’m alone, I can relax enough to get the rest I need to recuperate. I’m not talking about days of being alone. Often a few hours out in the woods or at home by myself is enough. I like to spend the time reading, meditating or just thinking. I usually come back feeling quite refreshed.

2. Practice Gratitude

Count your blessings! Actively practicing gratitude is something I feel is very important and it is usually a major pick-me-up. It helps me to drag my thinking out of those dark places and back into the light where good things happen. It is weird how powerful just 5 minutes of listing out the things I have to be thankful for is for improving my mood. Give it a try!

3. Find Something to Make You Laugh

Laughter is certainly great medicine. The benefits of laughing are numerous. It relieves stress, reduces blood pressure and boosts your immune system. I like going to a humorous movie, comedy show or just joking around with my wife. A good belly laugh can have a tremendously positive effect on your outlook in life. What makes you laugh? Go do it now!

4. Volunteer to Help Someone in Need

Volunteering gets our minds off ourselves and focused outward. Also, it always gives me an emotional boost when I know I’ve done something nice for someone else. Plus, I often walk away realizing I don’t have it so bad. We can even become a virtual volunteer right at our computers. How convenient is that?

5. Go to Lunch With a Friend

I love to go to lunch with people. It is fun catching up with an old friend while sharing a meal at a favorite place. Pick someone that is relaxing and friendly. You know who makes you feel calm and who stresses you out. A lunch out can really help me to relax and start feeling myself again. Also, a friend is a great sounding board. Tell them how you feel!

6. Treat Yourself to a Vacation

I love getting away to exotic locations. There is something very rejuvenating about taking a vacation to somewhere like Cozumel. The warm sun, the sand, the sea and the chance to completely unwind. Life just moves slower on an island. This really helps me to slow down and de-stress. What’s the rush? There is none on vacation!

7. Exercise Your Troubles Away

Finally, I find exercise to be extremely useful in helping me to dump stress and feel better. Working up a good sweat does wonders for me in terms of improving my mood and helping me to relieve tension. It clears my mind and produces a lot of positive emotion. I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t exercise regularly. The stress would eat me alive!

Don’t Ignore The Signals Your Body Is Giving You

Our bodies and minds are extremely good at warning us when we are pushing things too far. Don’t ignore these signals. Be sure to take a little time to recharge your batteries. I’ve already lined up a vacation next month and I hope to get a little quiet time over the next few days.

What do you do to relieve stress and re-energize yourself? Leave me a comment and let me know!

Sex and the City 2 banned from UAE

The movie will not be shown in the emirate!

It was announced Wednesday (19May) that Sex and the City 2: Carrie On will not be shown in the UAE. Local reports have confirmed rumours that the movie which is set in Abu Dhabi, but filmed in Morocco has officially been banned from being released in movie theatres across the emirate.

The National Media Council (NMC) has concluded that there are numerous reasons as to why the film will not be allowed to be viewed here. "Among them are that the film’s website stated that filming was done in Abu Dhabi even though they were denied permission to do so and that they continue to attribute the locations shot in Morocco as being in Abu Dhabi, which is false, as the theme of the film does not fit with our cultural values,” said NMC. “Also, they persisted in using Abu Dhabi’s name in the movie despite the fact that no official permission was given to them to do so."

Sex and the City 2 starring Sarah Jessica Parker premieres in London on Thursday (20May) and will be released worldwide on May 27. Fans of the flick in the UAE will just have to Carrie On.

Mohammed Al Fayed sells Harrods store to Qatar Holdings

Mohammed Al Fayed has sold London department store Harrods to the Qatari royal family's investment company for a reported £1.5bn ($2.3bn).
The Egypt-born tycoon acquired the business in Knightsbridge following a £615m takeover in 1985.
Ken Costa, an adviser to the deal with Qatar Holdings, said Mr Al Fayed was retiring "to spend more time with his children and grandchildren".
He will continue to promote the store in the role of honorary chairman.
But Mr Al Fayed will not be involved in running the company on a day-to-day basis.
HARRODS

The store has over one million square feet (90,000 sq m) of selling space and 330 departments
The Harrods motto is Omnia Omnibus Ubique - All Things for All People, Everywhere
It was established in 1849
15 million people shop there each year
History of Harrods department store
The sale, signed in the early hours of 8 May, will include all parts of the Harrods group, including Harrods Estates and a charter aircraft service.
Qatar Holdings is the investment arm of the emirate's sovereign wealth fund, Qatar Investment Authority.
Although it failed in bid for Sainsbury's in 2007, it is the third-largest shareholder in car-maker VW and has stake in Porsche.
Its chairman, Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani, who is also Qatar's prime minister, said Harrods would add "much value" to its portfolio of investments and generate "good and stable returns as a business".

9 Words Women Use Often

(1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they think they are right and you need to shut up.

(2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.

(3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.

(4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don’t Do It!

(5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.)

(6) That’s Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That’s okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.

(7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just say you’re welcome. (I want to add in a clause here – This is true, unless she says ‘Thanks a lot’ – that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking you at all. DO NOT say ‘you’re welcome’ . that will bring on a ‘whatever’).

(8) Whatever: Is a woman’s way of saying take a hike!

(9) Don’t worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking ‘What’s wrong?’ For the woman’s response refer to # 3.
